Issue #37 -- Maine - Touring the Gardens

Maine is a very cold and snowy State in the Winter. Because the Winters are so harsh, little to no time is spent gardening.  However, the flowers bloom in the Spring and Summer.
We hope you enjoy our photos of the gardens we visited this Summer.
We visited three gardens this Summer and found them all to be some of the most beautiful gardens we have ever seen.

Thuya Gardens

Charles K. Savage had the original vision for Thuya Gardens in 1956, but the garden did not open until 1962. Thuya Gardens is open for May through October.  We have found the best time to visit is July and August.  In this garden you could easily spend hours walking the grounds and sitting to relax and take in the beauty.

We would love to post every photo we've taken at the Thuya Gardens, but we have more gardens to share with you.

Asticou Azalea Gardens

The Asticou Azalea garden was originally built in 1956 and 1957 by Charles K. Savage. The garden covers 2.3 acres, surrounding a pond.

Much like the Thuya Gardens, if you want to see the garden in it's flowering state try to visit during the month of June.
After your visit to the garden, just across the street, is the Asticou Inn where they serve great food and Maine's dessert, "pop-overs."

Rockefeller Garden
Rockefeller Garden also known as Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden can not be described in words, so I hope our photos will do it justice.  Unlike the prior gardens, you will need to make reservations to visit this garden. This garden was created in 1926 and 1930 by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller and noted garden designer Beatrix Farrand.
