Issue #15 -- A Day on Green Lake - Sunday June 25, 2017

Acadian Lakes Guides - Bud Farwell, Owner
So how did we get HERE?  Right place, at the right time!  After arriving and setting up our motorhome at Timberland Acres RV Park for our seasonal stay of five months, we were off to a Rotary event with our friends, Debbie & Lincoln Ehrlenbach. The event turned out to be a fund raiser-auction.  One of the many items I bid on was a day on the lake provided by Bud Farwell of Acadian Lakes Guides.

As you can see, I was the highest bidder.  The package was to spend a day on Green Lake, in Ellsworth, on a pontoon boat with up to six of my closest Maine friends.  In addition, lunch would be provided by the guide, Bud Farwell.  The package was valid May to October of this year and you could choose a day of just relaxation on the water or a day of fishing, or even just swimming. I chose a combination of relaxation and a little fishing for the guys.  Once I decided the group to accompany David and myself, I made contact with Bud.  Bud was very accommodating and assured me that we'd all have a day to remember on the water.

Debbie & Lincoln are two busy people, first they own and operate Timberland Acres RV park, where we stay. Lincoln is  very active in the Ellsworth Rotary, and as of July 1st he holds the post of District Governor. Debbie is also involved in several non-profit and charity organizations.

Rick & Cheryl are both very busy people as well.  They come to Maine, from Florida, for the summer season to enjoy the beauty and surrounding area.  Cheryl has a green thumb and grows lovely flower gardens and also has a vegetable garden.  In addition they have two friendly Belgian Malinois, Ayla & Yuri, that keep them busy.

The whole adventure turned out quite well.  Bud and I had several conversations getting the details together and making sure everything would turn out just right. We had lots of rainy days leading up to the 25th of June, this made me very nervous as Sunday was really the only day we could plan our outing.  We decided to plan our day from noon to 8 pm. and the original menu for supper would be hamburgers, hot dogs, potatoes with onions all cooked on an open fire.

After all the planning and a few prayers, June 25th came and it turned out to be the most beautiful day, so far, this season.  We couldn't have asked for better weather.  We all met at the boat launch where we agreed to meet up with Bud. Once we were all aboard, Bud took us on a tour of Green Lake and told us it's actually a very good place to go fishing.

Nothing yet!
Cheryl loves to fish!

I could do this everyday!  This is my idea of relaxation, and I think Debbie fully agrees.  I was able to capture some nice shots of the water and surrounding area.

Gotta have snacks!

There were plenty of snacks for everyone. Bud was a bit nervous that we wouldn't have room for supper, but we just nibbled a little.  I didn't tell you Bud had a last minute change to the menu and decided to prepare a true Maine 4th of July supper.  Our supper, which he cooked completely over an open fire, consisted of: farm-raised salmon, egg sauce, potatoes & peas and fresh fruit. Tea, water and soft drinks were also provided.

Oh, and for dessert we had blueberry pie with ice cream and coffee which was also cooked over the open fire.  The coffee cooked over the open fire really took me back to my childhood when my grandfather made his coffee the same way. Awesome job, Bud!!

Knows she's a lucky dog?

It was very hard to have the day come to an end!
Bud's dog, Suzy, joined us for the trip back to the original pickup location.

Suzy likes salmon too!
What a great day!
Lincoln relaxed!

Blueberry pie, yum
Open fire, what a great way to cook.

Farm-raised salmon.
Bud, did a GREAT job.

If you are ever up in this part of Maine and would like a day or more on the lake fishing, then Bud Farwell is your man.  He not only has the pontoon boat, he also has all the fishing gear you'll need, just bring your fishing license. Bud was true to his word ... this was definitely a day we'll all remember.
One of the things I forgot to mention is that Bud is a retired U.S. Air Force, and professional pilot and when we questioned the possibility of rain he told me he has learned "the weather forecasters are 96% accurate, 4% of the time."  He was right!

Hope everyone enjoyed their
