Issue #33 -- Back on the Road - April 2019

Next stop Picacho Peak RV Resort,  Arizona. Our stay here was short, but very relaxing.  I was able to spend some time by the pool.  We also visited with friends from Maine, who now spend their winters in the Tucson area.

If you've never been to the West, it's well worth a trip. It's deserts are beautiful this time of the year.

The desert has it's own type of wildlife to watch out for. In addition to rattle snakes, you also have to beware of scorpions.  Our friends found this one in their skylight over the bathroom, and found out it's a great conversation piece.

We're Heading to: Albuquerque, New Mexico

In Albuquerque we found a Casino RV Resort which reminded us a lot of Santee Lakes RV Park in Santee, California;  Isleta Lakes RV Park.
We only stayed four nights, but enjoyed excellent food at the Casino and a day taking the train to Santa Fe.

The sites have full hook-ups and include a picnic table and grill.

There are several lakes for fishing or walking around.

The Casino is very close to the park, and as with most Casinos, you can request the shuttle to pick you up. We drove over, and although we don't gamble, we did enjoy some good food. The first night it was just something quick. David had Mexican food, and I had my fall back food, chicken tenders.

The best food was at the Casino Steakhouse. David had one of the best steaks he's had in a while and I enjoyed a wonderful salmon dish.

After supper, we sat out on the patio where I  enjoyed a glass of wine and we both enjoyed the beautiful view with a delightful dessert.

The resort has the hotel and casino, the RV resort, a bowling alley
and kid's game building, a convenience store and gas station, an 18 hole championship golf course, and the lakes to fish in. While we were walking around one of the lakes, a young man caught a huge bass.

David loves trains! The Railrunner is the train you can take to Santa Fe, with the cost for a senior day pass only $7 each. It takes you through Albuquerque, (you see some pretty bad spots in the city, as well as some nice spots), then lots of beautiful landscapes between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, which is the Capitol city of New Mexico. The train station on the Indian reservation stops within walking distance of the RV park, so it was very convenient.

It's a two hour ride to Santa Fe, so our first stop after arriving was to get breakfast.  The conductor at the train station recommended a place within walking distance to the town square, Tia Sophias. The food was excellent. David had a ham and cheese omelet, but also thought about having the their machaca and eggs. I had a wonderful breakfast burrito.

After breakfast we walked to, and through, the famous Town Square of Santa Fe. Many Native American Indians sell their creations to City visitors.

We had a nice day, walking and enjoying the many sites.
Santa Fe is a well kept, charming town, that is similar to Sedona, Arizona.

It was a relaxing train ride back to the RV resort.
